Blessing Of The Fleet

Great Sandy Straits Marina | July 21, 2018.

Join us on July 21 for tasty food stalls and fun children’s rides as part of Hervey Bay’s traditional Blessing of the Fleet which signals the beginning of the whale watching season. The blessing of the Fleet is a centuries old tradition believed to have originated in Mediterranean communities to ensure a safe and prosperous season to all vessels.

A Butchulla welcome, aloha chant and multi-faith blessing will be the highlight of this year's event which runs from 4pm - 7.30pm. You can also step aboard to check out the many whale watching vessels, enjoy a sail past and see a great live performance by Hervey Bay’s Leonie Kingdom, who recently topped Triple J’s Unearthed chart, and watch the fantastic fireworks display.

There will also be a Marine Rescue Hervey Bay open day from 2pm to 5pm at the Great Sandy Straits Marina to promote awareness of the volunteer service.

We hope to see you there!
